30 Years Orphan--Outside

“Give me a break. Ben was lost for like a week, and now you telling me that he went back to where he stayed 30 years ago and that place was suppose to be gone during that time?” David’s eyes was widely open looking at Sarah.

“Cool down man, I was having the same reaction as you are now when I first heard this. But this is the only thing that we are able to know what’s happening to him, we don’t have news about him for a week! This recording is our last hope David”“Sarah, I….I don’t know about this. Don’t you feel weird? Everything he said doesn’t make any sense.”
“David, you telling me now that you don’t believe in this!? You telling me that all he said was just crap, just bullshit!? David, Ben’s your best friend, how could you not believe him!?”
“No.. no.. Sarah listen…”
“Now Ben’s out there in somewhere! He needs help! And you are not believing him! How could you…..”
Tears’ bursting out from Sarah’s eyes, she was totally out of control. She was like a mad man being locked and struggling to get out.

David put his hands on Sarah’s shoulder and hold them tightly, trying to calm her down.
“Sarah! Sarah! Stay cool!”
Sarah wasn’t listening, she’s still struggling, struggling to get rid of David. David hold her shoulder more tightly this time.
“Sarah! Look at me! Cool down….Sarah!”
“No! You don’t believe Ben, you don’t believe in every of this!? You don’t know what’s going on!”
“I do!”
Slowly Sarah started to stop struggling, she turned her look to David looking at him weirdly. Can’t believe what David said.
“You… you do?”
“Yes Sarah, I do. But Sarah we can’t do anything to this. I think we better send this to the cops and they will know what to do. Maybe this will help them to find out where’s Ben faster.”
“No… no… you still don’t know. The cops won’t believe this!”
Her voice was starting to shake. She was scared.
“But what can we do huh!? Sarah listen, the cops can help us.”
“No! No! You are still not believing me! I’m getting out of here!”
Okay! Okay! Sarah, I believe you. I’m not giving this to the cops okay? We gonna find Ben ourselves, okay?”

Sarah gave David a weak smile. And suddenly her eyes closed and she fell back. She was unconscious. She fainted.
“Sarah… Sarah?”
David gave Sarah a light slap, try to wake her up. Suddenly, Sarah’s eyes opened widely.
“I found you…”
Sarah sat up straight slowly and gave David a scary look. This made David froze. ‘What is she talking about?’ was only line words appear in his mind during that time.
“What am I talking about? I m saying that I found you….. Charlie”
David was totally in a statue mode. ‘Charlie? That name… so familiar. Have I know this guy?’
“Oh you should. You forgot? 30 years ago… David”
His thoughts had been read again. His mouth was widely open, what he is facing was…. So not Sarah.
“S…Sa…Sarah...yo…you…okay?”
“You really forgot, David. How disappointing. Let me tell you.”
Slowly, Sarah moved closely to David. She put her face closely to David’s. It was so close that David can feel her breath. It was in that time, he realized something, Sarah’s pupil was
white.

30 Years Orphan--Recording#1 (continue)

I swear I saw a shadow passing in front of me, but it just disappeared into the dark corridor. You know what Sarah, I’m starting to think that all these that happened, is not a coincident. All of these starting to creep me out. ‘What brings you here young man?’ it came from an old man who came from my back which made me jump. He was tall, dark and look kinda muscular. From how he look, he seems to be strong and healthy although he’s old. He looks like he’s in his mid 60.

‘Who ar….’ Before I could finish my words, this man just caught my right hand with a strong grip and ran. ‘There is no time to talk. They already knew you are here. Run!’. I was running hard behind, but I don’t know why and who are ‘they’? suddenly I heard a footsteps coming from my back. It was soft at the beginning, but slowly it sounds like it was getting closer and closer. I wanted to stop to see what is it but that black man who was running in front shouted ‘Don’t stop! Don’t wonder! Keep going!’ we were running in a corridor and there is no way we can turn. The footsteps getting closer and faster, until we found a door on the left wall. The black took out a bunch of keys and to try to find the right one that fit the door. ‘C’mon, c’mon’, his hand was shaking sweats were rushing out from his forehead. I can hear the footsteps is getting real close. ‘Aha!’ he found the right key and the door swing open. ‘Now get in!’. I jumped in and realized that the footsteps were just a few feet away from me. I landed flat on the floor, with my face kissing the concrete floor. Ouch.

The back man who had just saved my life, closed the door hard. Then a big ‘Bang!’ to door, the door was standing still there.
‘Phew!’
‘(gasping) What was that!?’
‘(gasping) Fun?’
‘You out of your mind!? You call that fun!’.
The old man gave me a quick smile and walked away. I was still with my bud on the floor, I quickly stood up. It was a dinning room, we entered a dinning room. Everything here was in a proper arrangement, a big square table in the middle which can fit like at least 10 people. Four at each side and one for the front and back of the table. There was a candle holder at the center of the table which only have a candle on it. The candle looks weird, it’s doesn’t look like a normal one we saw. It was….. fat. On the left side of the room was a cabinet, I can’t see what’s in the cabinet, it was filled with dust. In the other side, there were two pictures of two nurses. I recognized one of them, she was the head nurse of the orphanage. On the ceiling, was a chandelier hanging there. It was dark here but I still can see clearly from the moonlight that came through the window at the end of the room.

‘How did you get here?’ The man started the conversation.
‘I don’t know too, I just bumped into this place.’
‘No one can ever came here. Unless….’
‘Unless?’
‘Unless those who should be gone 30 years ago but didn’t’
‘Wha.. what do you mean?’
‘What is your name young man?’
‘Why do you think I should tell you if I don’t even know who are you?’
‘(laughed) Right, I’m Rachard, they call me Gunny. Now will you tell me?’
‘I’m Ben Cooper…’
‘Ben Cooper!?’ The man quickly turned back and shot me a ITS-HIM-! Look.
‘What’s with that look?’
‘Ben Cooper… They are expecting you’
‘Who are they?’
‘Shhh…. They must not be speaked.’
‘Okay what’s the deal with me then?’
‘You are one of the three that was spared 30 years ago when that murder happened. Which mean you are the one that should be gone 30 years ago but didn’t’
‘So? That doesn’t mean I have to come here. And how this place…. I thought it was burned 30 years ago after the murdering.’
The old man walked closer to me and said with a soft tone
‘What you see and where you stand now is not like what they really are. They want you, want you to be dead.’
‘Huh? The they want me… dead?’
‘Of course you can try to escape, but only if you know how.’
‘Then tell me!’
‘Find truth’
‘Truth?’
‘But beware as the truth is very cruel. It is never the like of everything here. But the exit, only can be found there.’
‘How do I find it then?’
‘Find the key and unlock the padlock in the bathroom upstairs. This is all I can tell you.’
Gunny took out a recorder and a knife and handed them towards me.
‘Someone will have to know this. Use this recorder, tell your story and it will automatically send whatever you said to the one you wanna tell.’
I looked at the recorder in my left hand and opened it. It was empty. How can a recorder work without a tape? And how can it send to someone? ‘But….’ He’s gone.

Sarah, I don’t know whether it really works? But if you are listening to this, it means it works. I’m now trying to find the key Gunny said. Prey for me, if anything happens to me, this tape will be my last chance. So, keep it well. Miss you, Ben.

*End Of Recording#1*

I Cried

It was raining night,
We met.....
We were... just stranger.

It was in a coincident....
We talked.....
We became.... just friends.

As time flows....
We became better and better....
We were known as... best friends.

A year has passed...
We fall in love....
My love... you....
But your's... was him.

Three years gone...
Today....

Both of us....
Standing in different positions...
You... as a bride.....
Me.... is just as a visitor.

Everything has became impossible....
My tears fall...
I cried

30 Years Orphan--Outside

(Door knocking) ‘Sarah! I’m David! Are you there!?’. This has made Sarah jumped. She quickly pressed the stop button. ‘Coming!’. She quickly ejected the tape and hid it in her pocket.
‘C’mon Sarah, this is important’. The door opened, Sarah’s face appeared in front of the door. ‘What is it?’
‘It’s about Ben, the cops just called. They said they tried to call you, but we weren’t answering the call. So they called me. But when I saw that your car is still in the garage, I think that you probably still at home. Then I give it a try.’
‘Phone call? Maybe I didn’t hear it.’
‘What happened to you? Looks like you were just back from a marathon race. Is there anything?’
‘No…nothing, erm… what did the cops said?’
‘They found Ben’s car’
‘Where!?’
‘Wow…calm down. They said they found it in a wood 2 miles away from his office’. Sarah starting to felt weird.
‘(mumbling) I thought it’s at the orphanage’
‘Excuse me? You said anything?’
‘Huh? Nothing… what about Ben? They found him?’
‘No, it seems like he abandoned the car. But where would he go walking? No matter, the cops hope that we can get to the place now. We’ll talk in the car, c’mon.’
‘Oh…okay.’
The two of them then took on David’s car and ride on to where Ben’s car was found.

* * *

Sarah was having a mixture of many feelings during the journey. Nervous, worried, fear and many more. She can’t figure out how Ben’s car appear in the woods when it was supposed to be at the orphanage. She starting to feel strange for everything. First was Ben’s disappearance, then the tape and the letter and now this. She feared that she will not stand on anymore if more of these come, and she know that there will be. She needed someone to help her to share this burden. She was thinking of telling David about it. David’s a very best friend for the Cooper couple and she believe that he can be trusted. But what if he don’t believe it and think all this was just a bunch of nonsense? Sarah has no idea what will happened if things doesn’t go the way she thinks.
‘Erm… David?’
‘Yes? Anything?’
‘There is something I need to tell you, I hope you can help me.’
‘Okay, speak out and lets see what can I do?’
‘It’s like this. This morning….’
‘Okay we are here, I guess you gonna tell me later, right?’ ‘Right’.

* * *

Ben’s silver SLR McLaren was on the side of the road, and it is being examined by a few officers. The weather was cold that day, cold wind was blowing hard.
‘Excuse me, I’m David Flincher. It was Detective Susanne who called us here. I’m a friend of Ben Cooper and this is his wife, Sarah Watson.’
‘Oh, it’s you two. The detective is expecting you. Here please follow me.’
The officer replied and he lead the two to a tall, black and long-haired lady.
‘Detective, this is David Flincher and Sarah Watson’
‘Thank you Mario, now leave them to me. You can go back to your work.’
The officer nodded and walked away.
‘Sarah Watson, one of our officers found this when the team was searching the car. It has your name written on it, so I think we should hand it to you.’
Detective Susanne handed over a white envelope to Sarah.
‘Thank you.’ Sarah took it and put it into her pocket. She decided not to read it on the spot.
‘We had a police report that someone found this car today morning at 6.46a.m. We checked on the number plate and found out it was Mr. Cooper’s car. And so we called you guys.’
‘Was the car damaged when it was found?’ asked David calmly.
‘No, nothing was spoiled. The door of the driver seat was opened when we found it.’

While David and Detective Susanne was talking about the car, Sarah didn’t pay any concentration towards it. She looked around, and realized that the road that Ben’s SLR McLaren was found was a straight road with only woods around on the left and right side of the road, just like what Ben described in the tape. But the road was wide and its enough for even two trucks to go side by side, it was not like what she has been told. She tried to look more further but the sight was being covered with mist.
‘Where does this road lead to?’
Sarah interrupted the talk of the detective and her friend.
‘This road was used to be a highway lead to the city, but it was closed down ever since the new one was built.’
‘Then are there any buildings or towns along the way?’
‘From what I remembered… nope. Is there anything you suspect?’
The looked detective gave Sarah made her didn’t dare to look into her eyes, she was trying to find something in her. Sarah turned her sight back towards the road, she had a feeling that Ben maybe there in the far side of the road. Suddenly a touched on her shoulder by David made Sarah jumped.
‘There’s nothing much we can do here, lets go.’
‘O…okay.’
‘Thanks detective, if there’s anymore further information please tell us.’
‘I surely will.’
The two hopped into David’s car and head their way home.

‘David, there is something I have to tell you. I found this tape this morning at my bedroom door. It’s from Ben. I think you should hear this too.’
Sarah took out the tape from her pocket and insert it into the cassette radio.
